Well, here's my guess (for what it's worth).  Stappy has said that 'The Sopranos' was his favorite television show in past interviews (although I am sure he had to watch it taped and time-delayed the majority of this year) and that show had a LOT of nominations.  So, since he was in California anyway for a guitar show, he decided to go be a fan and rub elbows with some of his idols who actually SHOW UP to accept awards they win (or something like that).
